Exceptions to the Rule
As some of you may know, I am a paralegal. I work for an attorney who practices criminal law along with personal injury and family law, so there is a mixup. The other day I had to call a client who had been in an accident to remind her to bring in pictures of her injuries and damages to the vehicle. I then let her know that because she did not have insurance at the time of the accident that she was not entitled to pain and suffering. As soon as she heard this she started to scream at me about how unfair it was that she could not collect for pain and suffering and why couldn’t I do some thing about it, I told her this was the law that when you do not have insurance that you can only collect for property damage and bodily injuries. She went on and on, I’m sure you can imagine, you know the type.
In my opinion, if you’re going to drive around without insurance, you shouldn’t be entitled to anything. Can I afford it? Not really but I make sure I make the money because it is required by law. It amazes me how some people think “they” are the exception to the rule!
